Why does the Espresso Machine drip too slowly?

You may find that the espresso seems to come out of your Espresso Machine too slowly (or quickly). Find our advice here...

When you've prepared your espresso and pressed start, the correct amount of water (depending on how many shots you selected with the Dose button: 1 (~ 30 ml) or 2 (~ 60 ml) will be dispensed. The hot water is forced through the coffee grounds that you put into the filter basket and tamped.:

It should take 20-30 seconds for either 1 or 2 shots to be dispensed.

  • If less than 20 seconds (ie. it comes out too quickly): decrease the grind size and/or increase tamp pressure (15-20 kg or 30-40 lb of force).
  • If more than 30 seconds (ie. it comes out too slowly): the coffee is ground too finely, so increase the grind size. You could also reduce the pressure of your tamp. Additionally, the filter basket may be blocked. Use a pin to unblock the hole(s). Lastly, the machine might need to be descaled
