Irish soda bread
Irish soda bread
Tools
Ingredients
500 g all-purpose flour
1 tbsp caster sugar
2 tsp baking soda
10 g salt
375 ml buttermilk
30 g butter, melted
1 egg
Step by step
Affix the Bread Bowl to the stand mixer fitted with the Sifter+Scale attachment. Sift the flour, caster sugar, baking soda and salt on speed 1 into the bowl.
Remove the Sifter+Scale attachment from the stand mixer and insert the Dough Hook.
Combine all the wet ingredients and add them to the dry ingredients. Mix on speed 1 until the dough just comes together. I should still be sticky and scrappy.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface, lightly dust your hands with flour and shape the dough into a ball.
Line the lid of the Bread Bowl with baking paper and place the dough on it. Score a cross on top and cover the loaf with the Bread Bowl.
Place the Bread Bowl in a 205°C preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the lid after 40 minutes and bake another 15 minutes until the bread has a golden crust.
Let cool on a wire rack.
